Jobs of the future
– Published 22 February 2017
It is time to get back to blogging after the weekend and a trip to the US. This year I will also try to post more frequently.
Both in California, where I was last week, and here at home you constantly hear how hard it is for companies to find people with the right background for the job. Businesses are all looking for people to hire in many different industries, but the demand is especially high in the area of education that we offer at LTH, as the industries that operate in this sector expect a high rate of retirement in the near future. We have a good number of applications to many of our programmes and, as I mentioned, the demand is high. We would enroll more students, but this requires more resources. Without funding, I am worried that companies will have to look outside Sweden to find qualified employees.
Last year we doubled the Technical Preparatory Programme despite tight funding and the fact that, as we have long sought to emphasize, it is not part of our educational mission, which is to educate engineers, architects, and designers. Why did we do it? Well, to help the students who made a wrong choice and because there is a need in society. We take our social responsibility!
The demand is high, and I am confident that this trend in the job market will continue. The education we provide prepares students for exciting careers with endless possibilities, regardless if they want to geek out as engineers, start their own business, become managers, have an international career, etc. This is why I would exhort everyone who is about to choose their higher education to consider LTH as an option.
I promise you will receive a good education in a fantastic environment.
Together we explore and create, to be useful to the world.
