LTH AEROSOLS seminar: "Towards Better Black Carbon Emission Estimates in Europe: assimilating surface observations" by August Thomasson
August Thomasson, PhD student at Combustion Physics, will give a presentation on his work about "Towards Better Black Carbon Emission Estimates in Europe: assimilating surface observations".
“Accurately quantifying emissions of black carbon is crucial for understanding the aerosol's climate and population health effects, but current bottom-up emission estimates show large uncertainties. To complement these estimates, we use a Bayesian inversion framework along with an atmospheric transport model to constrain the emission estimates using surface observations of equivalent BC. In total, observations from 22 sites in Europe are assimilated. The presentation will provide an overview of the principles behind data assimilation and demonstrate how the emissions constrained by observations are around 20% higher than previous estimates. Some limitations of the method and challenges faced so far in the project will also be discussed.”
Fika will be served from 11.00, and the seminar starts at 11.15.
