Experimental Methodology
The aim of the course is to establish what an experiment really is. More importantly, what characterizes a good experiment? This course aims to answer these questions and speed up the journey towards becoming a proficient experimenter.
The course will support the understanding of basic concepts in science theory and how to apply them in practice. This includes the difference between experimentation and passive observation, and how to plan and carry out experiments that result in explanatory knowledge. The course will also provide knowledge on how to apply important statistical tools through out your research process.
Course structure
The course is built around practical examples and exercises that explain general concepts and techniques that are applied across a wide range of experimental fields. A central part of the learning process is a small research project where these concepts and techniques are applied. For a pass on the course, participants must have passed all assignments in the course, along with a written exam. The course is taught in English.
Admission
To be prioritised for admission to the course, applicants have to be part of a doctoral programme at LTH.
Scope
The course corresponds to 5 weeks of full-time work and to 7,5 credits in third-cycle (PhD) studies (with Pass and Fail as available grades), if this is in line with the individual study plan.
