“A lot of basic research and development within 5G is needed and it is very exciting to be part of the gathering of forces which is now happening nationally. 5G will bring completely new systems solutions and technologies and above all these will enable major changes within various industries and society as a whole. It is important for us to contribute the expertise we have, in cooperation with industry, to solve difficult research issues and enable this development”, says Björn Landfeldt, director of the MAPCI research institute at LTH.
LTH is one of the agents in the investment, together with Ericsson, Scania, Volvo Construction Equipment, KTH, Chalmers, Linköping University and Swedish ICT. The programme is supported by Vinnova.
“Lund has a long tradition within mobile communication and we have worked actively with Ericsson since the early 1980s. LTH has a lot of unique knowledge within fields such as hardware, algorithms and systems development which are all important parts of future 5G systems. One example is Massive MIMO where we are world-leading”, says Viktor Öwall, dean of LTH.
