Autumn in Lund – and a journey that we embark on together
It is so heart-warming to see older students devote many hours of their spare time during the orientation period to make new students feel welcome and help them settle into their studies at LTH, writes LTH’s Dean Annika Olsson.

September is here and at LTH we are approaching a new start, a new academic year and the joy of welcoming around 2 000 new students from far and near to the Faculty of Engineering and our programmes in Lund, Helsingborg and Ljungbyhed.
It is a good feeling for those of us in the LTH management to welcome – albeit digitally – so many new students to a place for dreams and discoveries, and on such a day it makes me think about the dreams that will be fulfilled among our new students, who are expectantly embarking on a new journey with us at LTH.
It is even more exciting to think about the potential discoveries this generation will contribute to during their education or in their subsequent careers. Many of our students are involved in creating solutions to problems in engineering, architecture and design, and they often start companies based on these ideas.
It also feels fantastic to welcome students who are gaining an education for a labour market that is almost crying out for their expertise on the day they graduate.
Our students take a wealth of new knowledge out into the world and a labour market that needs problem-solvers, built environment professionals, researchers and many other experts. And LTH is more than ready to educate for that future.
There are always a few nerves and jittersbefore starting a new journey, as all those who answered the roll-call will be doing this autumn.
It is so heart-warming for me to see older students devote many hours of their spare time during the orientation period to make new students feel welcome and help them settle into their studies at LTH and the spirit of community that is created during the University years.
There is also a sense of security, knowing that the students will receive a well-planned and well-balanced orientation thanks to our professional personnel and our teaching staff, who are ready for the first lectures.
Lund University and LTH can gradually return to more campus-based teaching this autumn and I, like many of our teaching staff, look forward to meeting students in our environments again. We have all learned a lot about the digital way of learning and cooperating, so there will be different forms of teaching.
Now we will work to fulfil our dreams and contribute to future discoveries. Together we will explore and create, to benefit the world. Welcome to LTH!
