Almedalen – and a pleasant summer!

We are once again on the other side of a successful semester in which LTH teaching staff and students have stood out with new research findings, lauded degree projects, well-earned research funding and interesting projects in collaboration with our partners in Sweden and around the world. So says Dean of LTH Annika Olsson, who would like to wish all LTHers and our collaboration partners a relaxing summer.

Öresund in the summer.
Summer in the Öresund area. Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH, once again has high praise for the teaching staff, employees and committed students who constantly embody LTH’s vision: Together we explore and create – to benefit the world. Photo: Johan Persson

The magnolias are blooming and a sense of calm has settled over Lundagård and the LTH campus. At the end of May I was pleased to hand out around 325 diplomas to newly graduated engineers at both Master’s and Bachelor’s levels, architects, industrial designers and international Master’s students in the Main University Building’s beautiful auditorium. I felt a true sense of pride at seeing the breadth and diversity of expertise that is now leaving student life behind to face new challenges as community builders of the future and sought-after professionals with future employers.

The following Friday we proudly celebrated our honorary doctors Eva Lindroth and Björn Liljeqvist together with 75 doctoral graduates and an impressive eleven jubilee doctors. It was especially gratifying that the first ever female student at LTH, jubilee doctor Inga-Lena Lamm, a true pioneer and role model for gender equality, gave the thank you speech on behalf of the jubilee doctors at the doctoral degree conferment celebratory dinner.

We are once again on the other side of a successful semester, where LTH teaching staff and students are visible in many different contexts with new research findings, lauded degree projects, well-earned research funding and new interesting projects in collaboration with our partners in Sweden and around the world. So, yet another semester with high praise to LTH’s teaching staff, employees and committed students who constantly embody our vision: Together we explore and create – to benefit the world!

We are already looking forward to welcoming new students to our courses and programmes, which are happily attracting an increasing number of applicants. Thanks to targeted initiatives related to the green transition, we can now offer an additional 100 places or so.

Before we close shop for the summer and the holiday period, however, we’ll head to Almedalen to speak about important topics such as How do we put food on the table in the event of a crisis? and High time to prepare for flooding – who does what and how? We will also hold a seminar together with the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies on how to ensure there is enough water for everyone. So if you are in Visby – visit us at Hästgatan.
