The 19th International PhD Seminar on Chromatographic Separation Science
The SoCSS 2024 will be hosted by Lund University. The seminar will this year take place from 13.05.2024 until 15.05.2024.
SoCSS is a seminar for presentation and discussion of research in the field of chromatography and allied techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work and build their professional network in a relaxed and casual environment. It is anticipated to attract young researchers from all over the world in the relevant field. The exchange with fellows and the established network will be beneficial to shape their future development as next-generation experts. Seminar participation is however not limited to PhD students. Master students, postdocs and alumni from industry are also very welcome to share their scientific contributions and provide valuable feedback.
Presentations will cover a wide range of topics relevant to cutting-edge research, new technologies, and emerging areas in the following fields:
o Fundamentals of chromatography / Process engineering
o Process development, intensification and scale-up
o High-throughput (HTP) approaches and solutions
o Continuous processing
o Computational methods
o Chromatography modeling, simulation and optimization
o Model-based process design and control
o Machine learning
o Alternative separation methods and modifications
o Liquid-liquid chromatography (LLC)
o 3D printed stationary phases
o Novel separation/interaction techniques
o Analytical techniques
o Method development
o Process analytical technology (PAT)
Call for abstracts and Registration
The SoCSS seminar has been established as a forum for current PhD students from the area of chromatography to share their work and connect with peers. Every PhD student is invited to give a presentation about their work (approx. 15 min talk + 5 min questions and discussion). The organizing committee highly encourages all registrants to submit an abstract for a conference talk.
Registration will open in January 2024. The participation fees are 800 SEK for PhD students (academia, industry & private), 1300 SEK for other participants from academia and 3500 SEK for other participants from industry. All prices are excluding VAT. This participation fee does not include accommodation. With your registration confirmation you will receive a code for a discounted room in Elite hotel Ideon (valid until four weeks before event).
More details on program will follow soon. The seminar will this year take place in Lund, Sweden from 13.05.2024 until 15.05.2024 at Elite Hotel Ideon (elite.se, Scheelevägen 27, 223 63 Lund, Sweden).
If you have any questions regarding the seminar or the presentation format, please direct your questions to daniel.espinoza@chemeng.lth.se.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Lund!
Workshops
This year, we will offer workshops to all SoCSS participants. The exact topics and more information will be available on our website in April 2024.
SoCSS in the past
The seminar was founded by Prof. Henner Schmidt-Traub1, Prof. Klaus Unger2, and Dr. Reinhard Ditz3 in 2001 and initially named as “PhD Seminar Preparative Chromatography”. Prof. Massimo Morbidelli4 and Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern5 have been showing great dedication to the seminar organization and it has been eventually renamed as International PhD Seminar on Chromatographic Separation Science (SoCSS). Currently, the seminar is organized annually throughout Europe.
